The Nginx-Ingress Controller will be deprecated in March 2026, before that happens we should migrate to a Gateway API implementation.

After some initial research Istio seems like a good alternative that works with much of our existing setup.

If we would use the Ambient Mesh, then it can integrate with Cilium. But be aware that there still are some bugs.
